Mazie Swindell Smith was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. After getting her education (including two years at St. Mary’s in Raleigh), she began her long career in public education. After retirement, she returned to her native Hyde County and served as the County Manager. In 2019, she and her husband Dan moved to Lake Waccamaw where they are active members of Grace Episcopal Church in Whiteville. She enjoys gardening, crafting, reading, travel, music and spending time on the water.
